Since there seemed to be some real interest in place to go for help and support with real life issues on another thread, here is a compiled list of just some of the online support available for various issues.

There is 1st a great website called dailysupport.org with a ton of information and support groups on a wide range of different topics. Link HERE

Another website with multiple mental health support sites attached focused on Australia Link Here

Online Depression Support Groups Link Here

UK Depression Support Link Here

Australia Depression Support Link Here

Alzheimer’s Caregiver’s Online Support Group Link Here

Breast Cancer Online Support Group Link Here

Bipolar Disorder Online Support Group Link Here

Online Grief Support Group Link Here

Grief Support Groups UK Link Here

National Crisis and Suicide Hotline and Website 1-800-273-TALK

Women's Health US Government provided hotline website (lots of numbers for different issues)

This list is just to get us started on some wonderful online community help. I apologize for not covering nearly enough international support or illnesses, but please feel free to add links for your country, region or illness. PLEASE ONLY ADD LICENSED, QUALIFIED ONLINE HELP GROUPS. This thread is meant to be a legitimate point of reference for people in need of support beyond friendship.

It says Youth, but they do take adult clients as well.

Breathing Space is a Scottish service for Mental Health Issues and the freephone number may not be useful for all but there is tons of useful advice and information for sufferers and those supporting them.

Your Problems

Self-harm
Alcohol and drugs
Mental health conditions
Chronic pain management and terminal illness
Relationships and sexuality
Discrimination
Abuse
Bereavement and loss
Work and money worries
Homelessness and accommodation

Getting help

Worried about someone?

What help is available to me?
How do I know if someone is depressed?
How can I help someone who is depressed?
What do I do if someone is talking about suicide?
How can I help someone who has a drinking problem?
Take care of yourself
How can I help someone who is schizophrenic?
Are you a carer?
a question is a question is a question and nothing else

As far as Australia goes the service most widely publicised and used is probably Lifeline which offers 24 hours crisis support;

Lifeline provides access to crisis support, suicide prevention and mental health support services.
Somewhere in Australia there is a new call to Lifeline every minute. People call Lifeline’s 24 hour crisis support service 13 11 14 about many things including:
Anxiety
Depression
Loneliness
Abuse and trauma
Physical or mental wellbeing
Suicidal thoughts or attempts
Stresses from work, family or society
Information for friends and family
Lifeline also provides national services and campaigns that promote emotional wellbeing, encourage help seeking, and address suicide prevention and awareness.
Lifeline is a not-for-profit organisation and relies on community support.

Sorry you went through whatever it was that you went through... And I applaud and thank you for the courage to admit that you were a victim. Sometimes people need to see that there ARE other people out there that have gone through something similar. Just those 3 words might have given someone the courage to seek help themselves

We applaud all the fantastic links that have been
placed on this thread for assist people. These posts are wonderful.

It would be greatly appreciated if someone from the Utherverse could incorporate them logically and place them as a sticky on the top of all the forums.

Thanks in advance for your help with helping others. Smile

God Bless

GREAT thread Mal, and for all of the links to various org. I'm going to post a link to an org that is very near and dear to my heart, To Write Love on Her Arms. Some have seen me donning a tattoo on the inside of my right upper arm bearing those very words, however, most if anyone really even knows the backdrop to the reason WHY I have it inked on me. Growing up in a family where the parents divorced when I was 9 wasn't easy. Immediately after the news that my parents were leaving each other I sank into deep depression, and at the age of just 11 years old I started cutting myself to try and cope with the pain. To this day (I'll be 25 in Sept) I *still* struggle with the desire and sometimes downright need to get a blade and cut myself. This organization raises awareness and implements prevention methods for people who go down the same route that I struggle to avoid daily.

If you're like me and struggle with cutting, there IS hope and I urge you to check them out, they are an amazing org.

Thank you Frisky, one of my girlfriends in college was a cutter as well, I can't believe I didn't think to look for those support links when I started this thread. Best of luck on your struggle, I know you'll keep your chin up and keep on.

This community at times is very beautiful and this thread is proof. We all have different struggles and burdens and maybe you share yours with someone else and your link and message will give them the help they need. Beautiful job everyone I'm so proud ThumpUp

It's a silent epidemic Mal, IMHO. A lot of the time people don't like to talk about the taboo of it all (believe me, that's me included..actually I hate talking about it but it needs to be done)..some cutters (and I've had this very thought as well) think that inherently there's nothing wrong with it, that the only person that gets hurt from it is themselves but then you may not even tell someone about how in the secret of the night or sometimes even brazzingly during the DAYTIME you cut yourself and they happen to see your scars, then it affects THEM, whether ANYONE realizes it or not. Or some people (again I point myself out) think it's just one of those things that cool people do, so you do it to fit in. I'll stop ranting now but just wanted to make those points as well.

***Disclaimer: I am NOT a trained professional and whatever advice I offer up, I only offer it based on MY experiences and my experiences ALONE***

I dont know how others may feel about, but read some problem´s or bad experiences, like what i read about Frisky or Girlfriend_DMI i get my heart totaly freeze.

And after that i think.
Why are we fighting in here about silly things?

Im sure that many of us,or almost all of us dont have any idea what this two girls are talking about.
Only who goes through an experience like this know how hard is and the rest of us can only imagine and try on the best way give some support or sometimes a shoulder.

When i read this i lose all the energy to silly fights.

Here is kind of a cool site for medical advice, support groups and what not. However the page of the site I linked to below has a ribbon page, you can "wear a ribbon" for about 30 different causes and learn what each color ribbon stands for. You can give a reason for wearing your ribbon and it gets posted with others.

Art Therapy: Exploring creativity and the arts as a catalyst for healing & therapy. Inspiring others to create.
Art Therapy;000000 wrote:
Definition: Art therapy is a form of expressive therapy that uses the creative process of making art to improve a person’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Benefits of Art Therapy
Art Therapy;000000 wrote:
The creative process involved in expressing one’s self artistically can help people to resolve issues as well as develop and manage their behaviors and feelings, reduce stress, and improve self-esteem and awareness.

Anyone can use it, you don’t need to be talented or an artist, and there are professionals that can work with you and delve into the underlying messages communicated through art.

Art therapy can achieve different things for different people. It can be used for counseling by therapists, healing, treatment, rehabilitation, psychotherapy, and in the broad sense of the term, art therapy can be used to massage one’s inner-self in a way that may provide the individual with a deeper understanding of him or herself.
